The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists membership has ratified the Network Television Code which covers actors and all on-camera and off-camera talent on TV reality shows, syndicated dramas, daytime soap operas, game shows, talk shows, variety and musical programs, news, sports and promotional announcements.A total of 93.5 percent of the membership voted in favor of the new code, which is a three-year deal, effective retroactively from Nov. 16, 2007 to Nov. 15, 2010.
The code does not cover scripted TV network dramas and sitcoms. Negotiations on that agreement are set to begin on Monday, May 5. AFTRA’s prime-time TV contract expires June 30, 2008.
The deal for all other TV programming includes increases in program fees in all categories of performers and program formats, new terms for reuse of programming in new media, increased contributions to health and retirement plans, and retroactive pay increases of up to 3.5 percent for most performers dating back to Nov. 15, 2007.
