William “Bill” Benz, a longtime and well-known advertising executive, mainly in the brewing business, died on April 28. He was 80.After stints working for the Associated Brewing Co. throughout the Midwest, Benz made a name for himself as senior vp of media information and research at D’Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in St. Louis. In 1985, he joined Anheuser-Busch as vp and general manager in St. Louis. He retired from the business in 1991.
Along the way, Benz received honors and recognition from such organizations as the AAAAs, the Advertising Research Foundation and the Media Rating Council of Chicago.
Visitation for Benz will take place Sunday May 4 at Gerber Chapel in Webster Groves, Miss., but those who knew him but cannot attend can sign the online register book at gerberchapel.com.
