Mon Aug 11, 10:35 AM ET NEW YORK (AFP) - US stocks retreated Monday from a robust rally that capped a volatile week as investors digested signs of worrying slowdowns in some foreign countries.The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 53.42 points (0.46 percent) to 11,680.90 in opening trades and the tech-heavy Nasdaq composite fell 11.48 points (0.48 percent) to 2,402.62.
The broad-market Standard & Poor's 500 index slid 4.91 points (0.38 percent) to 1,291.41.
