22 minutes ago NEW YORK (Reuters) - NBC Universal, backed by Blackstone Group (BX.N), and Time Warner Inc (TWX.N) are expected to be the two top contenders for the Weather Channel cable network, which has set a Friday deadline for second-round bids, the Wall Street Journal reported.Citing people familiar with the auction, the Journal said some previously interested parties, including CBS Corp (CBS.N), Liberty Media and Comcast Corp (CMCSA.O), are not seen as top bidders at this point.
Bids for the Weather Channel have been expected to range between $3.5 billion and $4 billion, people familiar with the matter told Reuters last month.
