By Peter Kaplan 22 minutes ago WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 1 million U.S. households have requested $40 government coupons since Tuesday to help pay for converter boxes for the coming switch to digital television, officials said on Friday.The government has taken requests for almost 1.9 million of the coupons from more than 1 million households since the coupons became available on January 1, according to the Commerce Department, which is overseeing the program.
"The demand for coupons is strong," Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez said in a statement.
