-- The United Fresh Produce Association, which represents farmers, grocers and restaurant chains, spent $220,000 in the second quarter to lobby the federal government on agriculture spending, energy and other issues, according to a recent disclosure report.The trade group -- whose members include Safeway Inc., McDonald's Corp. and Kroger Co. -- lobbied on regulatory matters including the farm bill, food and drug safety, labor matters, and other issues in the April-June period.
Besides Congress, the association lobbied the Food and Drug Administration, the departments of Agriculture and Homeland Security, and other agencies, according to the report filed July 21 with the House clerk's office.
