HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) -- Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced $125 million in budget cuts to help cover a $150 million state deficit projected for the new fiscal year that begins on July 1.The cuts, which were announced Tuesday, will affect everything from welfare and job training programs to cultural attractions to agency staffing.
"I think folks were expecting this," said Robert Genuario, Rell's budget director.
"The governor was left with the task and the obligation, which she takes very seriously, of keeping the '09 budget in balance," he said. "This is one of the powers that the law provides to her for her use ... when the economic climate dictates it."
